Belarus Democratic Dictatorship Question

1) How do you think Lukashenko's rule has affected Belarus, and what do you think the country needs to become a democracy again?

My answer: I think with Lukashenko being the leader he will fix votes so that he never loses, and there will continue to be violence and a poor economy. What the country needs to do is stand up for what they beleive in and try to get someone other than Lukashenko to lead the country, someone that will make Belarus a true democracy.

  1. He needs to be taken to the International Court of Justice and then to prison. This man leads countries the same was as Qaddafi, Mubarak, and Hussein. History has not treated these men very well... After this, I agree in that they need to have a proper election, one where anyone can vote without fear. This may well need to be monitored by the UN, and why this hasn't happened yet is beyond me.

  2. Lukashenko is a common dictator. He oppresses, tortures and befowls his country and what is claimed to be a democratic society. Belarus has never really been given a chance to develop politically as a nation, and this man is not giving them one. To become a democracy, Belarus needs either an uprising of the people or foreign intervention. To put it simply, Belarus needs a leader who has seen the horrors of the dictatorship 1st hand and who can put a state into place that speaks for what the population wants as a whole. That is a democracy.
